We will just start by saying that this 860-acre property in the Osa Peninsula may be at the top of our “favorite places” list in Costa Rica, let alone the world. Given the sheer number of properties we have visited over the years, that is really saying something. When we consider it’s raw beauty, it’s uniqueness, it’s location… and add in the 1 kilometer of private beachfront land – nothing else can really compare. There may be other beautiful beachfront properties available in the world, but you would be hard pressed to find one quite like this.
The property sits adjacent to Corcovado National Park (link), the “Crown Jewel” of the Costa Rican national park system. Corcovado is the “largest primary forest on the American Pacific coastline and one of the few remaining sizeable areas of lowland tropical rainforests in the world.” With hundreds of acres of its own private rainforest reserve, the property serves as an important wildlife corridor to the beach and might as well be considered an extension of Corcovado itself. This nature reserve includes several streams, a river, wild pristine beach front, waterfalls, and some of the largest trees in Central America. For all intents and purposes, you have a once in a lifetime opportunity to own an oceanfront home inside one the most spectacular national parks on the planet!
A Unique Place Where You Will Find A Beautiful Array Of Wildlife On The Beach
Given that National Geographic called Corcovado “the most biologically intense place on Earth in terms of biodiversity“, guests visiting the compound are encouraged to enter their wildlife encounters in a logbook. Practically every type of wildlife in Costa Rica can be found here, including jaguar, puma, margay, jagarundi, ocelot, tapir, peccary, otter, deer, sea turtles nesting on the beach and all four species of monkeys.
The images in this listing weren’t cherry picked from photos taken over the years. Other than the aerial shots, every image shown here were taken over the course of a day. During this time, we saw countless Scarlet Macaws, Geoffroy’s spider monkeys off the balconies, Coatis (Pizotes) on the beach, flocks of Brown Pelicans flying off the coast, a Barred Hawk, and undoubtedly many more animals that we didn’t notice.
Private Oceanfront Property Where The Rainforest Touches The Sea
Considering the amount of acreage and a location bordering highly protected conservation land, this property is the very definition of the word “Private”. The compound is set well off of the public access road and the homes are surrounded by towering trees. A switchback trail leads down from the main home to the beachfront land. This is where the property becomes magical. The beachfront extends from the house for approximately 1 kilometre and ends at an emerald green river spilling out of the rainforest.
It is truly paradise on Earth with warm aqua blue water, vibrant green rainforest, colourful Scarlet Macaws flying overhead, and not a single “human” footprint in the soft sand. Other than an occasional fishing boat offshore, you will not see anyone (onshore and offshore fishing here is unbelievable by the way). We also found an oceanfront clearing in the rainforest with an old rustic cabin built on the property. This would be a good shady place to put some hammocks or a palapa.
Self Sustainable “Off The Grid” Compound Powered With A Clean Energy Supply
Taking into account the location of the property, the owners built “low impact” structures that consist of a 4 bedroom/3 bathroom nature lodge and two separate 2 bedroom/1 bathroom guest houses (caretaker’s quarters). The property is completely “off of the grid” and other than having to bring in the occasional propane tank for cooking, it is completely self-sustainable with a natural potable water supply, energy efficient lights/appliances powered by a reliable hydro system and a redundant solar system. A deep gravity fed pool is continuously replenished with non-chlorinated water by a pure artesian spring located on the property.
The common areas are open to the outdoors and include a simple kitchen, a large dining room and comfortable lounge areas located outside of the bedrooms. Huge wraparound balconies on the western side of the home are a highlight and provide an eye level view of the rainforest canopy with a view down to the beach below. A variety of fruit trees have been strategically planted off of the balconies which bring in a constant show of wildlife. There are also a few hectares of tropical fruit orchards and an organic garden located in two sections of the property.
Opportunity To Convert To A Luxury Private Residence Or An Exclusive Nature Retreat
The homes are functional and comfortable but the real highlight of the property is the incredible beachfront location. However, with some new finishings and a little polish, the homes can be easily transformed into an ultra-exclusive nature retreat – the base construction is very solid with strong bones to work with.
Important note: The owners will not sell to a developer — this property is strictly for residential use and for educational purposes with development restricted zoning to conserve the forest and wildlife. This property is only for a buyer who has already made enough money that they are able to see this property as a legacy for future generations to enjoy. The next owner must be a good steward of the land and must protect it – not to chop into pieces for profit. For qualified buyers only, we have many more details to share with you about the property, the location and what can be accomplished here.
